About this award

You can receive a bursary valued at a maximum of $2,500. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an international student facing unexpected financial gaps caused by war, civil war, environmental disasters, climate issues, or severe economic hardship in your home country. You must apply by February 1, June 1, or October 1 of every year. After you submit your application, RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) will send you instructions on how to upload your supporting documents; ask them during that process when you can expect a final decision. Selection criteria aren't published—ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) during your application how the money will reach you—some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed—if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be an international student who has been impacted by humanitarian crises and emergencies, such as war, civil war, environment and climate issues, or economic hardship. To qualify, you must be currently at 'registered' status, be in good academic standing, and be enrolled in a program that lasts at least 8 months.

Tips for applying

  • Personal StatementAvoid writing a general plea for help. Instead, explain exactly how the crisis in your home country created a financial gap that you cannot control. Describe the specific event that changed your budget expectations.
  • SupportAvoid submitting only your study permit. Instead, gather any financial documents that prove your current hardship, as RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) may request these during the review.
  • StrategyAvoid listing expenses that you should have planned for before moving to Canada. Instead, focus your statement on emergency costs that happened after your arrival or sudden changes in your home country's economy.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the full $2,500 is guaranteed. Instead, treat this as a supplemental support fund and continue exploring other bursaries at RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) to ensure your tuition is covered.
