About this award

You can receive a $2,000 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you identify as female and are starting your journey in electrical engineering technology and want to use your community leadership skills to stand out. You must apply by September 15th. When you apply, ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the application portal. The school selects the winner primarily based on your leadership within your community, though they also give secondary consideration to your academic achievement in high school. Selection criteria for the number of winners aren't published — ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you are counting on this for multiple years, confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) whether it is a one-time award or renewable and what you need to maintain.

• Community LeadershipAvoid just listing the titles of the groups you belonged to. Instead, describe a specific time your leadership led to a real result for others. Give a concrete example of a project you managed or a team you led.
• ReferencesAvoid using a generic character reference. Instead, ask a teacher, supervisor, or inspirational leader who has seen you lead in action to write your letter. Ensure they explicitly attest to your leadership experience.
• StrategyAvoid forgetting to label your application correctly. Instead, clearly write "Imperial Award for Electrical Engineering Technology" on your form so the reviewers know exactly which award you are targeting.
• RealismAvoid overlooking the employment aspect. Instead, treat this application as a first impression for a future boss, as the winner's name is sent to the donor for a potential job opportunity.
