About this award

You can receive one of three $5,000 awards. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student pursuing a career as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. You must apply by one of three deadlines: January 15th, March 15th, or September 15th. When you apply, ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or the application portal. Winners are selected based on your academic standing and your financial need. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how they weigh grades versus financial need so you can judge your odds. The money is applied directly to your fee account to cover upcoming tuition. If there is any surplus money left over, it will be issued directly to you. Confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how the surplus payment is delivered. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you are counting on this for multiple years, confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) whether it is a one-time award or if you can apply again.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be an Indigenous individual pursuing an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer diploma at RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic). You must have successfully completed term one and be currently enrolled in either term two or term three of the program.

Tips for applying

  • Financial NeedAvoid providing a vague statement about needing money. Instead, clearly explain your current financial situation and how this $5,000 would impact your ability to finish your diploma. List your specific monthly gaps if possible.
  • StrategyAvoid forgetting to specify the award name on your form. Instead, clearly write "Leonardo Canada Award for Indigenous Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Students" on your application so it goes to the right committee.
  • RealismAvoid assuming that enrollment alone guarantees the fund. Instead, remember that only three awards are available and they are based on both grades and financial need. Focus your application on both of these areas.
