About this award

You can receive a scholarship ranging from $4,000 to $20,000, which breaks down to $1,000 to $5,000 per year. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an incoming first-year student who has balanced strong grades with leadership, community service, or extracurricular activities. You must submit your application for admission and scholarships by March 1. If you apply after March 1, Mount Allison University will look at your application on a case-by-case basis, but you may not be considered. You will hear the decision via email and letter, and the final value will be verified in April. Selection is based on your admission average and evidence of your achievements in leadership, academics, and community involvement. Ask Mount Allison University how many of these awards they give out each year so you can judge your odds. The money is credited directly to your Mount Allison financial account in two equal installments: 50% in September and 50% in January. These payments are based on your anticipated enrollment in 30 credits during the fall and winter terms. To keep this scholarship after your first year, you must achieve a 3.7 GPA while taking a course load of 30 course credits between the fall and winter terms.

Who qualifies

You must have a calculated admission average of 80% (or equivalent) to be eligible. This award is not available for students starting their program in January.

Tips for applying

  • ExtracurricularsAvoid just listing your clubs and sports. Instead, describe the specific impact you had or the leadership roles you held. Detail one project where your involvement made a difference.
  • SupportAvoid leaving your activities outside class off your application. Instead, show your extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service and work or internship experience, since entrance scholarships are awarded on these as well as academic achievement.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to apply. Instead, submit your admission and scholarship application well before the March 1 deadline. This ensures you are automatically considered rather than being reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • RealismAvoid assuming an 80% average earns the maximum award. Instead, remember that these range from $4,000 to $20,000 based on your overall profile. Focus on showcasing your internships and volunteer work to aim for the higher end.
