New Brunswick’s student-funding stack is unusually generous for a small-population province: NB Student Aid layers tuition-specific bursaries on top of standard provincial loans + grants, and the Tuition Access Bursary delivers up-front tuition relief for low-income families. Combined with a strong slate of university awards at UNB, Mount Allison, and St. Thomas, well-prepared NB students see meaningful provincial support.
Who this page is for
New Brunswick residents applying to post-secondary in NB or elsewhere. Out-of-province students at NB universities should still check institutional entrance awards — many open to all Canadians.
New Brunswick Student Aid
Apply at studentaid.gnb.ca:
- NB Student Loan: provincial loan stacked on Canada Student Loan.
- NB Bursary: provincial grant component (does not repay).
- Tuition Access Bursary (TAB): targets New Brunswick families with annual income ≤$60,000. Covers full tuition at NB public post-secondary up to $10,000/year.
- Tuition Relief for the Middle Class (TRMC): targets families with income $60,000-$160,000. Delivers tuition reduction up to $3,000/year.
NB Tuition Access vs Tuition Relief
These two programs together cover most of New Brunswick’s middle-and-lower-income households at NB universities. Eligibility is family-income-tested and applied at the institution level, not as a separate award. Verify with your school’s financial aid office.
