About this award

You can receive a $1,000 bursary. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. There are four of these awards available, and they are non-renewable, meaning you can only receive the money once. This is for you if you are a student-athlete attending one of the four eligible high schools in New Brunswick. You must apply by May 31st. When you apply, ask Fredericton Community Foundation how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or a student portal. Recipients are chosen by the athletic staff at each individual school. Since the specific number of applicants isn't published, ask Fredericton Community Foundation how many students typically apply so you can judge your odds. Ask Fredericton Community Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, while others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed because these awards are non-renewable. If you have questions about future funding, confirm with Fredericton Community Foundation what other options may be available to you.

How to apply

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • Athletic AchievementAvoid just listing the sports you play. Instead, describe a specific moment where your dedication to your team made a difference. Mention a goal you reached or a challenge you overcame.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to talk to your teachers. Instead, connect with your school's athletic staff early, as they are the ones choosing the recipients.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed award. Instead, remember there are only four bursaries available across four different schools, so treat this as a highly selective opportunity.
