About this award

You can receive one of two $1,000 bursaries awarded annually. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a varsity soccer player finishing your time at one of the four eligible high schools in the Fredericton area. You must apply by the second Friday in April. When you apply, ask Fredericton Community Foundation how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or a portal. The Morimanno Scholarship Committee chooses the winners. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Fredericton Community Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Fredericton Community Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Fredericton Community Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a varsity soccer player graduating from one of these four schools: École Sainte-Anne, Fredericton High School, Leo Hayes High School, or Oromocto High School.

We don't have a confirmed date for this round. The award's official page will have it.

Tips for applying

  • AthleticsAvoid just listing your position on the team. Instead, describe your contribution to the varsity soccer program and your growth as a player. Mention specific achievements or leadership roles you held on the field.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to check the calendar. Since the deadline is the second Friday in April, mark the date in your phone now so you don't miss the window.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed award. Because there are only two bursaries available each year, focus on showing why your community service and athletic efforts match Robert Morimanno's legacy.
