About this award

This program is tuition-free, meaning you do not pay for your training. Because it is funded by generous donors, there is no cost to apply or join, and you do not have to pay any money back. This is for you if you are an intermediate-level learner who already has a background in IT or programming and wants to pivot into a professional data role. One cohort starts on October 5, 2026, and ends on January 29, 2027. Another cohort starts on November 30, 2026, and ends on March 26, 2027. No single application deadline is posted publicly — before you start, check NPower Canada's program page to see if the next cohort is already full. NPower Canada's admissions staff make the final decision, and each location takes a limited number of participants. Note that they prioritize individuals who meet specific funder requirements and priority groups regardless of when you apply. Since the program is tuition-free, there is no money sent to you; instead, the cost of your training is covered. Ask NPower Canada if there are any other stipends available during your application so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed because this is a 15-week training program rather than a multi-year scholarship. Confirm with NPower Canada if there are advanced levels you can take after you graduate.

Who qualifies

You must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma, GED (General Educational Development — a high school equivalency credential), CAEC (Canadian Adult Education Credential — a national standard for adult secondary school completion), or equivalent. You must be eligible to work full-time in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be a Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold an Open Work Permit. Financially, your annual household income must be below $105,000 and your annual individual income must be below $50,000. You must also be facing unemployment, underemployment, or financial barriers to employment or post-secondary education. Geographically, the October 5, 2026 cohort is offered in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta, and the November 30, 2026 cohort in Nova Scotia and Ontario. If you live in Ontario, you must reside in Cambridge, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Kingston, Kitchener, Hamilton, London, Waterloo, Windsor, Gananoque, or Ottawa. Programs are indefinitely paused in Quebec, and residents of Quebec cannot be considered for programs in other provinces. Technically, you must have basic computer skills and practical experience or professional knowledge in Statistical Programming (using R or Python) or Object-Oriented Programming (using Java, C# or C++). You also need experience with Core Analytical Excel functions, Core Statistical concepts, and a working knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language — the standard language for managing databases). Finally, you must understand machine learning through courses or experience and have completed data or programming projects independently. Non-native English speakers must have a minimum CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks — a set of descriptors for English language proficiency) level 7-8 examination score. You cannot join if you are currently enrolled in, or confirmed for, full-time post-secondary study, if you are studying IT or tech at a post-secondary school, if you work in an IT job, if you are an international student with a study permit, or if you have already graduated from one of NPower Canada's Core programs. Open Work Permit holders need a permit that runs at least one year past the program start date.
