About this award

You can receive $3,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are passionate about advancing the agriculture, mining, manufacturing, or engineering sectors and have a record of community leadership. You must apply by October 31, 2026. When you apply, ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how and when you will be notified of the results — whether by email, phone, or through the application portal. The Award Committee chooses winners based on a 50% weighting for your academic achievement and a 50% weighting for your statement on leadership and community involvement. They aim to give two awards each to students in Heavy Equipment, Truck, and Transport Technician; Industrial Mechanics; Instrumentation Engineering Technology; Mechanical Engineering Technology; and Mining Engineering Technology. The rest of the 15 available awards go to students in Chemical Engineering Technology, Computer Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, Environmental Technology, Geographic Information Science, Power Engineering Technology, or Welding. Ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Saskatchewan Polytechnic whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled full-time and entering any year of study in a program focused on Mining, Manufacturing, or Engineering Technologies. To qualify, you cannot have received a Nutrien Award from a different category in the same academic year. A preference is given to you if you are currently employed by or have previously worked for Nutrien.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

How to apply

  1. Read the award's official page

Check you meet every requirement, and note each document they ask for.

  2. Write your essay

Be specific about what you did and what changed because of it. Proofread it twice.

  3. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • LeadershipAvoid writing a generic list of titles you have held. Instead, describe a specific time your leadership helped a project or group succeed. Give a concrete example of your community involvement.
  • StrategyAvoid focusing only on your grades. Since academic achievement is only 50% of the score, spend equal time detailing your passion for agriculture, mining, manufacturing, or engineering in your statement.
  • RealismAvoid assuming a guarantee if you are in a general tech program. Because the committee prioritizes two spots for each of the five main technician and engineering technology streams, competition may be higher for the remaining slots.
