You can receive $5,000 through one of ten awards. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. The money is sent in two stages: you get $2,000 when you are selected and the remaining $3,000 once you complete your program. This is for you if you are starting a career in the construction trades and need financial support to finish your training. If you are starting in the fall, you must apply by October 15th. For winter start programs, the deadline is February 15th. When you apply, ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how and when you will be notified of the results. Selection criteria aren't published — ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep the full amount, you must successfully finish your program to trigger the final $3,000 payment. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.
You must be entering one of these RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) certificate programs: Piping Trades, Carpentry, Cabinetry & Woodworking, Electrical Trades, or Refrigeration Mechanical Trades. You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person/refugee (someone with refugee status in Canada). The school considers your financial need and your commitment to the trades. A preference is given to graduates of the Skilled Trades - Foundations (previously Introduction to Trades) program and individuals from employment equity groups (groups that have been historically underrepresented in the workforce).
