You can receive a total of $21,500 over four years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. You get $6,500 in your first year and $5,000 in your second, third, and fourth years. There are seven Richard Lewar Entrance Scholarships available. This is for you if you have maintained a very high academic average while staying active in your school or local community through extracurricular activities. Your application deadline is March 1, 2027. If that date falls on a weekend, you must submit your materials on the first working day after the deadline. No specific notification date is posted publicly — before you start the application, check Carleton University's program page or call their office to confirm when you will hear back. A selection committee reviews your application. They look at your admission average and the range of your community or secondary school extracurricular activities. One application form covers all of Carleton's prestige scholarships. Ask Carleton University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this scholarship for all four years, you must maintain an annual GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of all your final grades) of 10.0. Confirm with Carleton University if there are any other renewal conditions you need to meet.
You must have an admission average of 90% or better and have demonstrated leadership roles in your extracurricular activities throughout school. You are eligible only if you are entering Carleton University directly from high school or CEGEP (the public college system in Quebec). You must be pursuing post-secondary studies for the first time; if you have previously attended any college or university (excluding CEGEP), you are not eligible.
