About this award

You can receive between $2,501 and $10,000 through this bursary. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are a graduate student who needs extra financial support to reach your educational goals. McMaster does not post a separate application or deadline for this bursary. The School of Graduate Studies says that if you apply for the McMaster Graduate General Bursary (the application opens mid-August in AwardSpring, and funding is paid in mid-February), you are automatically considered for some donor bursaries, and AwardSpring may also list others you can apply for. Ask the School of Graduate Studies whether this one is included. It is awarded by the School of Graduate Studies on financial need, and preference may be given to graduate students in the Faculty of Engineering. Ask how many are given each year so you can judge your odds. Ask McMaster University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with McMaster University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in any graduate program at McMaster University and demonstrate financial need. A preference may be given to graduate students in the Faculty of Engineering. The McMaster Graduate General Bursary application, the usual route to donor bursaries, is not open to international students in graduate studies. Note that if your status changes — such as if you graduate, take a leave of absence, or withdraw from the program — your eligibility for this funding may be affected.
