About this award

You can receive $1,500. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student living with a documented disability and are facing significant financial challenges while keeping up with your studies. You must apply by December 5th. When you apply, ask how and when you'll hear back — email, portal, or phone. Selection criteria aren't published — ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a student with a disability or disabilities, which includes documented physical, mental health, learning disabilities, chronic medical conditions, as well as vision and hearing loss. You must also be experiencing significant financial need and be maintaining satisfactory academic progress in your program.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

Tips for applying

  • EssayAvoid writing a generic summary of your grades. Instead, focus your essay on the specific ways your disability and financial situation impact your daily life as a student. Describe the concrete barriers you face and how this money would help you overcome them.
  • SupportAvoid submitting a vague letter of recommendation. Instead, work closely with your Accessibility Specialist to ensure your letter of support explicitly confirms your documented status and your need for funding.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed fund. Instead, remember that only one award of $1,500 is available annually, so you should apply for other financial aid options at the same time.
