About this award

You can receive $3,100. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Note that you can receive this specific award a maximum of twice in your lifetime. This is for you if you identify as a woman or gender diverse person pursuing a career in the skilled trades or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The application portal opens on April 2 at 12:01 AM MT and closes on May 31 at 11:59 PM MT. You will hear back and receive your funding in mid-to-late July. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Yellowknife Community Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Yellowknife Community Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Yellowknife Community Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a resident of the Northwest Territories or the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut for at least twelve consecutive months. You must identify as a woman or gender diverse person. You must be pursuing post-secondary studies in any trades education or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Priority will be given to you if you are an Indigenous applicant and/or if you are seeking employment in the mining or resource development industry.
