About this award

Woodsworth College distributes more than $225,000 in scholarships every year. This includes one Gold Scholarship valued at $12,000 and five Leadership Scholarships valued at $6,000 for top students in their final year. As these are scholarships, they are grants, not loans, so you do not have to pay them back. This funding is for you if you are a high-achieving student entering the University of Toronto (U of T) from high school, a current Woodsworth College student, or a student who self-identifies as Black, Indigenous, or 2SLGBTQ+. Deadlines depend on the award. For the Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman scholarships, you must apply by 12 noon on October 16, 2026. For in-course awards, sole-support parent scholarships, and awards for Black, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQ+ students, the deadline is December 15, 2026. You should check the University of Toronto (Woodsworth College) portal to see how and when you will be notified of a decision. Some awards, such as admission and graduation scholarships, are handled automatically based on your academic merit. Others need a formal application to the college. Selection criteria aren't published for all awards — ask University of Toronto (Woodsworth College) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask University of Toronto (Woodsworth College) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with University of Toronto (Woodsworth College) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To be eligible for the Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Gold and Leadership Scholarships, you must be in the final year of your first undergraduate degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50. You must also show high academic achievement, financial need, leadership qualities, and community involvement. Other awards are available for students entering the university directly from high school, those who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, or 2SLGBTQ+, and sole-support parents. Additionally, students who were registered in the Academic Bridging Program and have started their degree studies may qualify based on financial need and academic achievement. Service Awards are normally for fourth-year students with significant volunteer experience.

  • StrategyAvoid applying for only one award. Since the Faculty of Arts & Science offers over 300 in-course and admission scholarships, use the U of T Award Explorer tool to find every match for your profile.
  • RealismAvoid assuming you will get the $12,000 Gold Scholarship. Because there is only one Gold award and five Leadership awards, focus your energy on the broader pool of in-course and admission funding.
