About this award

Each scholarship is worth at least $1,000, though the exact amount varies by award and by year. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student from the North pursuing a specific field of study, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), aviation, mining, or the arts. You must apply by May 31 at 11:59 PM MT. You will hear back from the foundation in mid-to-late July, and every applicant will receive a notification regardless of the decision. Your application is reviewed by the Student Award Review Committee. Some awards are reviewed by committees from external organizations. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Yellowknife Community Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Who qualifies

You must be a resident of the Northwest Territories, Yukon, or Nunavut. To qualify as a resident, you must meet one of these three criteria: you have lived in one of the Northern territories for 12 continuous months or more; you moved temporarily for school but were a resident before you left; or you are in K-12 outside the North but your parent or guardian is a resident. You must be accepted or enrolled in a program that matches the field of the scholarship you are applying for. Note that some funds are only available to people living in Yellowknife.
