Here is what Yukon students can get for post-secondary. The Yukon Grant pays $195 per week with no repayment, up to 170 weeks of funding across your lifetime, plus $1,500 a year for travel. The Student Training Allowance is an alternative for Yukon University students with dependants. Both stack on the federal Canada Student Grant and Canada Student Loan. Yukon does not have a territorial student loan program, so you do not carry a territorial loan on top of your federal one. Yukon University also runs an entrance scholarship cycle each spring with tuition-class awards of $3,500.

Yukon Grant
The Yukon Grant is the flagship territorial program. Apply through Yukon Student Aid.
- Amount: up to $195 per week of study, a rate Yukon adjusts annually for inflation. Check with Yukon Student Aid for the rate that applies to your academic year.
- Lifetime cap: up to 170 weeks of funding, roughly four years of full-time study.
- Travel allowance: an optional $1,500 a year for travel.
- Grant, not loan: does not repay.
- Where: any recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or abroad.
- Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person. Meet one of three residency tests: two years of Yukon secondary school, being 20 or younger and living in Yukon since age 14, or living in Yukon from age 14 to 18. You must also have lived in Yukon for the two years right before classes start. Full-time enrollment required. Cannot stack with another province or territory's student aid.
Student Training Allowance
The Student Training Allowance is the alternative to the Yukon Grant for Yukon University students. Yukon residents living outside Whitehorse who maintain a home in Whitehorse and one in their home community receive an extra $105 per week. Allowances pay biweekly and are calculated by program length. You cannot receive the Yukon Grant and the Student Training Allowance in the same period. Choose the one that fits your situation. If you have dependants and attend Yukon University, the Student Training Allowance may pay more.
Federal Canada Student Loan and Grant
Yukon students also access the federal Canada Student Financial Assistance program through Yukon Student Aid. The same application assesses you for the Canada Student Loan, the Canada Student Grant for full-time students from low-income families, the Canada Student Grant for part-time students, the Canada Student Grant for students with disabilities, and the Canada Student Grant for students with dependants. No separate Yukon territorial loan exists.
Yukon University awards
Yukon University runs an entrance award cycle and in-program awards. Entrance awards include the Academic Potential Entrance Award and the Entrance Scholarship at $3,500 each (tuition-class, spring application deadline), the Joyce Family Foundation Bursaries at $3,000 each (mid-summer deadline), and the Winter Entrance Award at $1,750 (winter intake, December deadline). In-program awards include the Lorene Robertson Writing Award at $2,000, the Yukon Chamber of Mines Bursaries at $1,000, the Pierre Lacasse Bursary at $1,500, and the George & Bell Consulting Indigenous Award at $1,000. General awards have a fall application window. Some awards have a separate winter deadline. Apply through the Yukon University Student Awards page.
Yukon First Nations post-secondary funding
Yukon First Nation citizens and beneficiaries may access post-secondary funding through their First Nation's Education Office. Each Yukon First Nation administers funding independently. Contact your home First Nation directly to learn what supports are available, eligibility, and application timing. The Yukon First Nations Education Directorate also supports systemic Indigenous education work and partners with Yukon University on the EleV Program in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation.
Yukon Foundation
The Yukon Foundation administers community-funded scholarships for Yukon students. These vary year to year and target specific fields, communities, or backgrounds. Search Yukon Foundation scholarships each spring.
