About this award

You can receive a $5,000 grant for your education. As a grant, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are from a historically marginalized or excluded community and are pursuing a career in the skilled trades. You must apply by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through an application portal. Selection is based on your written statement about your personal journey to post-secondary and your academic standing. Selection criteria aren't published — ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in one of these three programs: Advanced Plumbing Technology, Electrical Installations Technology, or Advanced Carpentry Technology. You must be from a historically marginalized or excluded community and maintain satisfactory academic standing. A preference will be given to students in financial need.
