The Garry and Pat Meadus Male Leadership Award

What you will need

• ✓ Completed General Application via the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) awards portal

About this award

You get $500.00. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a male student athlete who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities both during competition and in your daily life. You must submit your materials by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask how and when you'll hear back — email, portal, or phone. NAIT's official page says how this award is decided (see Who qualifies). Ask NAIT how many students usually qualify, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a male student athlete who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities on and off the competition surface. You should show commitment, dedication, strong leadership skills, and a work ethic that motivates your teammates.

Tips for applying

• LeadershipAvoid just listing the sports you play. Instead, describe a specific time your leadership motivated your teammates to improve. Give a concrete example of your work ethic in action.
• SupportAvoid relying solely on the automatic review. Instead, ensure your General Application profile is fully updated with your latest athletic achievements. Double-check that your coach's contact info is current.
• StrategyAvoid leaving your General Application incomplete. Instead, treat the general form as your primary tool for winning this award since there is no separate application. Fill out every optional field related to leadership and athletics.
• RealismAvoid assuming the award is guaranteed just because you are an athlete. Instead, remember that only one male student athlete will receive this $500.00 prize. Focus on highlighting what makes your leadership unique compared to other athletes.
