About this award

You can receive a $500.00 grant. As a grant, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student pursuing a trade in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, automotive service, or heavy equipment technician work. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the portal. Selection is based on your written statement about your personal journey to post-secondary and your academic achievement in your most recent term. Ask NAIT how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be an Indigenous student enrolled in one of the following apprenticeship programs: Electrical Technician, Carpenter, Plumber, Welder, Automotive Service Technician, or Heavy Equipment Technician. A preference will be given to Alberta residents who demonstrate financial need.
