What you will need

  • Graduation from a French-language program in British Columbia (CSF school or immersion program)
  • For Prix littéraire Gérald-Moreau applicants: submission of a French-language literary work

About this award

You can receive one of two $1,000 grants each year. As these are grants, not loans, you do not have to pay this money back. One of these is offered in collaboration with the BAFF (Bureau des affaires francophones et francophiles — the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs). This is for you if you are a graduating student in the French-language program in British Columbia coming from a school of the CSF (Conseil Scolaire Francophone — the Francophone School Board) or from a French immersion program. For the BAFF (Bureau des affaires francophones et francophiles) grant, the deadline is May 13, 2026. Other related prizes have various deadlines: February 28, 2026 for the Cornouiller d’or; May 13, 2026 for the Prix pédagogique Henriette-Moreau; October 15, 2026 for the Prix Napoléon-Gareau, the Prix d’excellence Gérald-et-Henriette-Moreau, and the Indigenous-Francophone initiative prize; and June 30, 2027 for the Prix littéraire Gérald-Moreau. You should contact La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) to confirm how and when you will be notified of the results. Selection criteria aren't published — ask La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To get the $1,000 grants, you must be a graduating student in the French-language program in British Columbia from a school of the CSF (Conseil Scolaire Francophone — the Francophone School Board) or a French immersion program. Other awards target specific groups: the Prix littéraire Gérald-Moreau is for authors from British Columbia; the Prix pédagogique Henriette-Moreau is for projects led by a school, class, or collective of the CSF (Conseil Scolaire Francophone); the Cornouiller d’or is for officials from a federal or provincial ministry or institution; the Prix Napoléon-Gareau is for individuals or organizations performing volunteer actions; the Prix d’excellence Gérald-et-Henriette-Moreau is for employees of an organization member of La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB); and the Kermode prize is for elected officials from any of the three levels of government acting as political allies of the Francophonie in BC. There is also a prize for initiatives that strengthen links between Indigenous and Francophone communities.

Tips for applying

  • ApplicationAvoid sending a generic application. Instead, highlight your specific contributions to the French-speaking community in British Columbia. Mention a concrete project where you promoted Francophone culture.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute, especially since different prizes have different deadlines. Create a calendar with the dates for the BAFF grant, the Kermode prize, and the Moreau awards to ensure you don't miss a window.
  • RealismAvoid assuming you will win based on enrollment alone. Since these are specialized prizes for excellence and recognition, focus your application on the unique value you brought to your school or community.
