About this award

Until the end of the 2026 to 2027 school year, you could receive up to $280 for each month you are in school, or up to $2,240 per year, for each dependant. As a grant, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is provided on top of your regular full-time student grant. This is for you if you are a parent or guardian supporting children while pursuing your own education full-time. No specific application deadline is posted publicly — before you start, check the Government of Canada's program page or call your provincial student aid office to confirm when windows open and close. You are automatically assessed for this grant when you apply for student aid with your province or territory. Selection is based on your reported family income and the number of dependants you have. Ask your provincial or territorial student aid office how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. The amount is set per school year (August 1 to July 31), and you are assessed each time you apply for student aid.

Who qualifies

You may be eligible if you are a full-time student in a qualified program at a designated school and have a financial need. You must have a dependant who is either under 12 years old at the beginning of the study period, or over 12 years old with a permanent disability. This grant is not available to students from the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Quebec. Your previous year's gross annual family income must be below the following cut-offs to qualify: - Family size 2: Maximum grant if below $54,412; cut-off at $98,017 - Family size 3: Maximum grant if below $66,641; cut-off at $117,317 - Family size 4: Maximum grant if below $76,952; cut-off at $129,769 - Family size 5: Maximum grant if below $86,033; cut-off at $141,180 - Family size 6: Maximum grant if below $94,245; cut-off at $151,937 - Family size 7 and more: Maximum grant if below $101,797; cut-off at $161,321
