About this award

You can receive $32,000 in total, which is paid as $8,000 per year for four years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student leader who has balanced a strong academic record with significant involvement in your school or local community. The application opens in October 2026, and you must email it to awards@carleton.ca by March 1, 2027. If that date falls on a weekend, you have until the first working day after the deadline to apply. You will need to check with Carleton University to confirm how and when they will notify you of the results. A selection committee chooses the ten winners based on your admission average and the range of your community or secondary school extra-curricular activities. Ask Carleton University how many students typically apply so you can judge your odds. One application form is used for all of Carleton's Prestige Scholarships, so the same application also considers you for the Richard Lewar Entrance Scholarship (seven at $21,500), the Carleton University Scholarship of Excellence (three at $20,000), the Carleton University SHAD Scholarship (two at $20,000), the Jay Woo and CAA Scholarship ($20,000) and the Riordon Scholarship (one, full tuition for four years, capped at the Canadian domestic tuition amount). Ask Carleton University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this scholarship for all four years, you must maintain an annual GPA of 10.0 (A- standing). Confirm with Carleton University if there are any other requirements to remain eligible.

Who qualifies

You must have an admission average of 90% or better and have demonstrated leadership roles in your extra-curricular activities throughout school. You are eligible only if you are entering Carleton University directly from high school or CEGEP (the public post-secondary college system in Quebec). You must be pursuing post-secondary studies for the first time; if you have previously attended any college or university (excluding CEGEP), you are not eligible.

Tips for applying

  • Extra-CurricularsAvoid just listing your clubs and sports. Instead, describe the specific leadership roles you held and the impact you made. Detail one project where your initiative led to a measurable result.
  • ReferencesAvoid having your referee write a generic letter of support. Instead, ask them to provide specific examples of your character and achievements. Ensure the letter is physically or electronically signed before you attach it.
  • StrategyAvoid rushing the PDF form. Instead, download the file to your computer and use Adobe to fill it out carefully. Double-check that your student number is included in your submission email to prevent processing delays.
  • RealismAvoid assuming a 90% average is enough to win. Instead, remember that only ten of these scholarships are awarded. Focus on showcasing your unique contributions outside the classroom to stand out from other high-average applicants.
