About this award

For a master's with thesis, the Engagement (Commitment) stream pays a total of $20,000 ($5,000 per session, for up to 4 sessions). Université Laval also runs a separate Excellence stream worth $20,000 for the same students, with no application form. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Note that this money does not cover the total cost of one year of study in Quebec, including your tuition and living expenses. This is for you if you are an international student who has applied for admission to a research master's at Université Laval and you stand out for exceptional commitment in your community or other areas of activity. The competition for 2027 admission opens in November 2026. You will usually hear if you were selected in March. Once you receive an offer, you have a strict 15-day window to accept the scholarship, accept your admission to the university, and pay your tuition deposit. The eligibility and selection criteria are set out on the award's detail sheet (fiche de la bourse), linked from Université Laval's page — read it before you apply. For the Excellence stream, winners are selected from the admission files the faculties receive. Ask Université Laval during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. The award is paid $5,000 per session for up to 4 sessions. The conditions for continued payment aren't on this page — check the award's detail sheet or ask Université Laval.
