You can receive $30,000 for your doctoral studies, paid as $5,000 per session. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Note that this amount does not cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses in Quebec City. This is for you if you have shown exceptional engagement in one of six specific areas: artistic, entrepreneurial, environmental, scientific, social and humanitarian, or sporting activities. The competition for 2027 admission scholarships opens on November 2, 2026, and the deadline to apply is March 15, 2027. Your referee must submit their part by March 20, 2027. You will usually hear if you were selected toward the end of April. If you are chosen, you have only 15 days to accept the scholarship offer, accept your university admission, and pay your tuition deposit. Winners are chosen on leadership (initiative, perseverance, research potential in the scientific category, impact on others), on involvement and commitment (volunteering and time given to an organisation or project, including in the last 12 months), and on academic record and the quality of the application. The money is paid to you by direct deposit or cheque, $5,000 a session, after the deadline to drop courses with a refund. It is renewed each year for the official length of your doctoral program, up to 6 sessions. To keep it, you fill in a renewal form each winter showing that your involvement continues, stay enrolled full-time in the fall and winter sessions, keep a program average of at least 2.67 out of 4.33, and take part in recognition activities such as a ceremony or a thank-you letter.
You must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident. To qualify for this specific doctoral award, you must have submitted a new application for admission to any doctoral program at Université Laval for the winter, summer, or autumn 2027 sessions. You must also demonstrate exceptional engagement in one of these six sectors: artistic, entrepreneurial, environmental, scientific, social and humanitarian, or sporting. Your admission application must already be processed, with the admission fee paid, when you apply for the scholarship. When offers go out at the end of April, you must hold a conditional or final offer of admission; applicants on a waiting list are not considered. You must stay enrolled full-time (or be deemed full-time) throughout the program; student parents studying part-time (6 to 11 credits) may also be eligible.
