Cochlear Americas Vocational Scholarship

What you will need

• ✓ Online application with three letters of reference (at least two professional, academic or volunteer) and a personal statement, submitted by September 30
• ✓ Proof of citizenship for the United States or Canada
• ✓ Details of your Cochlear Nucleus, Baha, or Osia device (type and month/year first implanted)
• ✓ Proof of enrollment or application to a technical, vocational, or trade school
• ✓ Proof of progress submitted by June 30 each year to receive each payment

About this award

You can receive $2,000 USD per year for up to two consecutive years. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a citizen of the United States or Canada and a recipient of a Cochlear Nucleus, Baha, or Osia device who attends a technical, vocational, or trade school. You must submit your application online by September 30 each year. You will hear the decision from the selection committee via email no later than January 31. At least one Cochlear Americas Vocational Scholarship is awarded based on your commitment to leadership and humanity, as well as your community involvement and extracurricular activities. Internal committees conduct two reviews before a final panel of external hearing healthcare professionals selects the winners. Cochlear pays the scholarship directly to you. To keep the scholarship, you must show progress each year toward your degree, certificate, certification, or license. You must provide this proof of progress by June 30 each year to receive your payment. Note that you can only receive this scholarship one time.

Who qualifies

You must be a citizen of the United States or Canada and a recipient of a Cochlear Nucleus, Baha, or Osia device. You must be a graduated student who has applied to or is enrolled in a technical, vocational, or trade school. You cannot apply if you are a Cochlear employee or a family member of one.

• SupportAvoid submitting references that only speak to your grades. Instead, ask a mentor or community leader to describe your character and extracurricular dedication. Ensure they highlight your commitment to leadership.
• StrategyAvoid sending your application by mail, as Cochlear Americas does not accept them. Instead, use the official online portal to ensure your materials are received. Double-check that every section is finished, because incomplete applications are not considered.
• RealismAvoid assuming this will cover your entire tuition. Instead, view this as a supplement to your other funding. Since at least one award is given based on a competitive review of leadership and community work, focus your essay on those specific themes.
