About this award

You get $500.00. As a grant, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student from a historically marginalized or excluded community pursuing a trade in a male-dominated field. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, the portal, or phone. Winners are chosen based on your satisfactory academic achievement and a written statement about your personal journey to post-secondary. There are six awards available for each intake, and there are five intakes annually. Ask NAIT how many people typically apply so you can judge your odds. Who qualifies

You must be a first or second-period student from historically marginalized and excluded communities. This includes Aboriginal students, women and/or gender minorities in male-dominated programs, 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and others) students, students with a prolonged or persistent disability, single-parents or children of single-parents, and visible minorities or racialized people. You must be enrolled in one of these apprenticeship programs: Carpenter, Ironworker, Insulator, Millwright, Plumber, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, Roofer Sheet Metal Worker, Steamfitter-Pipefitter, or Welder.
