About this award

You get $40,000 over 4 years, which is $10,000 per year for four years of undergraduate studies. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Western University offers an unlimited number of these scholarships. You also get a spot in residence for all 4 years, as long as you stay registered in an undergraduate program at Western's main campus and keep paying international fees, even if you do not keep the scholarship money. This is for you if you are an international student finishing high school in Canada and want to transition directly into a university degree. You will hear back by the end of February. If you have an offer of admission, you can view your Official Letter by logging into choose.uwo.ca. No separate application deadline is posted publicly — check Western University's program page or call their office to confirm the admission deadline for your intake year. There is no separate scholarship application and no competition: every student who meets the conditions gets one, and you are considered when you apply for admission. It cannot be deferred, and it cannot be combined with Western's Automatic Admission Scholarship or a National Scholarship. Ask Western University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep the money in your first year, you must meet your admission conditions, register for a degree at the main campus, and maintain full time status (a minimum of 3.5 courses) from September to April. To renew the $10,000 in later years, you must maintain an 80% average on a full time status (a minimum of 3.5 courses) during the previous Fall/Winter academic year. You must also continue paying international student tuition and fees.

Who qualifies

You must be completing high school in Canada on a study permit and paying international student tuition and fees. You must apply for admission directly from secondary school to a first-year undergraduate program at the Western University main campus for the 2026-27 Fall/Winter term (the intake the official page lists as of September 2026; check it for the year you are applying). Generally, you are not eligible if you have already attended a post-secondary institution, even if you later returned to secondary school. Note that if your status in Canada changes and you qualify for domestic fees after receiving the offer, you may become ineligible for the initial and continuing payments.
