About this award

You can receive a total of $2,500. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. You get $1,500 in your first year, and the remaining $1,000 is available for an optional study abroad experience. There is an unlimited number of these awards available. This is for you if you are a high-achieving high school student moving directly into a full-time undergraduate program at Western University's main campus. You do not need to apply for the initial $1,500; you are automatically considered based on your grades. You will be notified via your @uwo.ca email account in mid-to-late September. If you want the $1,000 study abroad portion, you must submit an International Experience Awards Application in the same academic year your travel begins. Winners are chosen automatically based on your final admission average. Selection is handled by the university admissions office using your verified transcripts. The money is applied directly to your fee account before the end of September. If the scholarship creates a credit on your account, Western University will send you a refund via direct deposit to your bank account in December. You should set up your direct deposit through your Student Center account under Student Financials. To keep the scholarship, you must remain registered for full-time studies, which means taking a minimum of 3.5 courses. If you withdraw or reduce your enrolment to part-time, you will lose the funding. For the study abroad portion, you must complete the experience before the end of your fourth year.

Who qualifies

You must be admitted to an undergraduate program at Western University's main campus directly from secondary school and be registered in first-year full-time studies (minimum 3.5 courses). Your final admission average must be between 90.0% and 91.9%. Note that averages are not rounded up. If you are coming from a non-Canadian curriculum, Western University will interpret your grades based on your local system. You are not eligible if you have previously attended a post-secondary institution or if you are a home-schooled applicant. Additionally, you cannot receive this if you already have a National Scholarship, Schulich Leader Scholarship, Continue in Canada Admission Scholarship, or the Welcome to Canada Admission Scholarship.
