About this award

You get $10,000 for your first year of study. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Western also promises you a place in on-campus residence for your first two years. This is for you if you are an international student finishing school outside Canada, or an international student transferring from a college or university in Canada, and starting a first-year undergraduate program at Western. You will know if you received this award by the end of April. To check your status, log into choose.uwo.ca (the Western University admissions portal). Consideration for this award is automatic. There is no separate application process, and Western offers an unlimited number of these scholarships. Ask Western University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this scholarship, you must remain enrolled in full-time studies with a minimum of 3.5 courses. If you withdraw or reduce your course load to part-time, you will lose the funding. The $10,000 is for your first year only, and the scholarship cannot be deferred.

Who qualifies

You must be an international student who is completing school outside of Canada, or who is transferring from a post-secondary institution within Canada. Please note that students completing high school within Canada are not eligible. You must apply for first year full-time studies (which means a minimum of 3.5 courses) in any first-entry undergraduate program at Western Main Campus for the 2026-27 Fall/Winter academic year. You must also be paying international student tuition and fees; if your status changes to allow you to pay domestic fees, you will become ineligible. Finally, you must meet all admission conditions listed in your offer letter.
