Dalhousie says it offers 2,000+ entrance awards each year, worth roughly $1,000 to $80,000 (yearly and over 4 years). Some are one-time payments, while others are renewable for up to 4 years. These are scholarships and bursaries, not loans, so you do not have to pay the money back. This is for you if you are a high school student or a mature learner with no previous college or university credits who wants to start your studies in the Fall term. Whether you are a domestic student or an international student, you can apply regardless of your financial aid status. The 2027-2028 application opens October 1, 2026, and you must submit it through the portal by February 15, 2027. If you receive an award, Dalhousie University will notify you in the spring. Dalhousie University assesses each student individually based on their full application. They look at your academic achievement, leadership, extracurriculars, community service, financial need, and cultural identity. Selection criteria for specific awards aren't always published, so ask Dalhousie University how many applicants they typically receive for the specific awards you are interested in. Your award is applied to your Dalhousie student account in two equal instalments, in mid-August and mid-December, and you must be registered full-time for those terms. If money is left after tuition and fees, you can request a refund from Student Accounts after the last day to add classes each term. Renewal conditions aren't listed for every award. Since some are one-time and others are renewable for up to 4 years, confirm with Dalhousie University whether your specific award requires you to maintain a certain GPA or enrollment status to keep the funding.
You are eligible if you are applying to start at Dalhousie University in the Fall term and you are either applying directly from high school or are a mature student with no transferable post-secondary study. Domestic and international students are both welcome to apply. Typically, you need an 80% average or 26 predicted/anticipated IB (International Baccalaureate — a global standardized curriculum) points, though this is calculated using the five courses required for your specific program. Note that for the First Nations and Indigenous Black Student (FNIB) Scholarships, the admissions average is not taken into consideration. Transfer students are generally not eligible, except for Indigenous Black and First Nations students from the Maritimes who wish to be considered for the FNIB Scholarship. Gap year students can apply as long as they have not completed any transferable post-secondary study.
