About this award

You get $500 for this award, though the source notes it is disbursed in increments of $500 up to the cost of your full tuition and mandatory fees. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student-athlete balancing the demands of full-time study and playing on the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) women’s hockey team. The application deadline is February 12, 2027. Since you are automatically considered through your general application, ask NAIT how and when you will be notified of the result. You are automatically considered based on your completed General Application, but the final choice is made at the discretion of the Department of Athletics and Recreation and the NAIT coaching staff based on your acceptance into the program and onto the intercollegiate team. Selection criteria aren't published — ask NAIT how many students typically receive this award so you can judge your odds. The money is disbursed in two increments in January and May. Ask NAIT during your application if these funds go directly to your bank account or are applied to your tuition balance so you can plan your cash flow. This award is for one year, but it may be renewed annually if you continue on the team and make progress through your program. To keep the funding, you must maintain an academic standing of at least 2.0 (63%) or greater in the current semester.

Who qualifies

You must be a full-time student and a member of the women’s hockey team at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). You are also required to achieve an academic average of at least 2.0 (63%) or greater in your current semester.

Tips for applying

AthleticsAvoid assuming your spot on the team guarantees the money. Instead, ensure your academic standing is above the 2.0 (63%) threshold. Check your current semester grades now to confirm you meet the bar.
SupportAvoid relying solely on the coach for updates. Instead, communicate directly with the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Send a polite email to confirm your general application was received.
StrategyAvoid ignoring the general application process. Instead, complete the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) general application thoroughly, as this is the only way you are considered for this award. Submit your general application well before the February 12 deadline.
RealismAvoid treating this as a guaranteed tuition cover. Instead, remember that while it can go up to full tuition, it is awarded at the discretion of the department. Plan your budget with other funding options in mind.
