About this award

You can receive a $1,000.00 grant. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you identify as a member of an underrepresented, historically marginalized, excluded, or diverse community and are pursuing a specific program at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). You must apply by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask how and when you'll hear back—whether it is by email, phone, or through the awards portal. NAIT's official page says how this award is decided (see Who qualifies). Ask NAIT how many students usually qualify, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you—some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed—if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in one of these programs: Occupational Health and Safety, Power Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Network Administrator, Digital Design – Visual Communication Design, Digital Design – Web Design, Game Development – Animation and Game Design, Game Development – Game Programming, IT Business Analysis, IT Systems Administration, Narrative Cinema Production, Software Development, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering Technology, Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Finance, Human Resources Management, Management, Marketing, or the Bachelor of Business Administration. You must also identify as a member of an underrepresented and historically marginalized, excluded, or diverse community. This includes Aboriginal students, women and/or gender minorities in male-dominated programs, 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and others) students, students with prolonged or persistent disabilities, single-parents or children of single-parents, visible minorities or racialized people, and eligible international students. A preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need and satisfactory academic achievement.

Tips for applying

  • Personal StatementAvoid writing a generic summary of your grades. Instead, share your personal story and be specific about the barriers you face as a member of a marginalized group. Describe how these challenges have impacted your journey.
  • StrategyAvoid leaving your application incomplete. Instead, ensure you have finished the General Application in the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) portal. Since you are automatically considered based on that form, a missing section could disqualify you.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed award. Instead, remember that preferences for financial need and academic records mean competition is high. Apply for several different grants to increase your chances of funding.
