You can receive a $1,250 grant for your studies. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you come from a historically marginalized or excluded community and are pursuing a career in the trades. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the awards portal. Selection is based on your written statement about your personal journey to post-secondary and your academic standing. Ask NAIT how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.
You must be enrolled in one of the following apprenticeship programs at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology): Electrician, Plumber, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, or Sheet Metal Worker. This award is for students from historically marginalized and excluded communities who have satisfactory academic standing. A preference will be given to Permanent Residents who have landed in the last three years.
