About this award

You can receive a $1,500.00 grant. As a grant, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have Indigenous ancestry and roots in Northern Saskatchewan through the Northern Lights School Division #113. You must apply by October 31, 2026. When you apply, ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or through the awards portal. Selection is based on a 50% weighting for your academic achievement and a 50% weighting for your financial need. There is only 1 award available, so ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how many applicants they typically receive to help you judge your odds. Ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, while others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Saskatchewan Polytechnic whether it's a one-time award or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be enrolled full-time in any Applied Certificate, Certificate, Diploma or Degree program at any Saskatchewan Polytechnic Campus. You must be of self-declared Indigenous ancestry. Additionally, you must have lived in Northern Saskatchewan and attended a school administered by Northern Lights School Division #113 (which can include elementary and/or high school) at some point before attending Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Tips for applying

  • Financial NeedAvoid providing vague descriptions of your situation. Instead, use specific numbers to show how the $1,500 will impact your ability to study. List your monthly expenses and current gaps in funding.
  • SupportAvoid omitting the specific name of your former school. Instead, clearly identify the school administered by Northern Lights School Division #113 that you attended. Double-check the official school name before submitting.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed fund. Instead, remember that only 1 award is available for the entire institution. Apply for several other bursaries at Saskatchewan Polytechnic to increase your chances of getting funding.
