About this award

You can receive approximately $5,000. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. If you meet the renewal criteria, you may have your bursary renewed for one additional year. This is for you if you are a PhD student in any discipline who has a strong academic record and needs financial help to complete your research. You must apply by November 16, 2026. When you apply, ask University of Saskatchewan how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, the portal, or phone. Ask University of Saskatchewan how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask University of Saskatchewan during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award for a second year, you must continue to demonstrate financial need and academic excellence. Confirm with University of Saskatchewan what specific documents you need to provide to prove these conditions each year.

Who qualifies

You must be an entering or continuing PhD student in any discipline. You must also meet one of these two residency requirements: you are a resident of Saskatchewan, or you completed your undergraduate degree at the University of Saskatchewan. You must have a GPA of 80% or above and demonstrate financial need. Please note that a preference will be given to female students.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

  • Open to graduate students
  • Resident of Saskatchewan

Tips for applying

  • Financial NeedAvoid giving vague descriptions of your budget. Instead, provide a clear breakdown of your current expenses and gaps in funding. List your specific monthly costs to show why you need this bursary.
  • SupportAvoid using references who do not know your academic work. Instead, choose a supervisor or professor who can speak to your research potential. Ask your referee to highlight your specific achievements in their letter.
  • StrategyAvoid leaving the financial section of the General Application blank. Instead, complete every single financial question thoroughly. If you miss one, the school will not consider you for the award.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed multi-year fund. Instead, treat it as a one-year award that you must earn again. Plan your budget based on one year of funding until you confirm a renewal.
