About this award

You can receive a $2,500.00 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have a track record of leading others, volunteering in your community, or starting your own business ventures. You must apply by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask how and when you'll hear back — email, portal, or phone. NAIT's official page says how this award is decided (see Who qualifies). Ask NAIT how many students usually qualify, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in the second year of any degree, diploma, or certificate program. To qualify, you need to show demonstrated leadership, community involvement, volunteerism, or entrepreneurial activities. A preference is given to students who are involved in campus activities, such as The Nugget, the Campus Ambassador Program, NAITSA (the NAIT Students' Association — the student government body), or various student clubs.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

  • Open to certificate or undergraduate students

How to apply

  1. Read the award's official page

Check you meet every requirement, and note each document they ask for.

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • LeadershipAvoid just listing the titles of the clubs you joined. Instead, describe one specific time your leadership or entrepreneurial effort led to a real result. List the exact project you managed and the outcome.
  • SupportAvoid providing vague character references. Instead, ask a supervisor from your volunteer work or a club advisor to write a letter that confirms your specific contributions. Give them a list of the leadership traits this award values.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the campus activity preference. Instead, highlight any roles you have held within NAITSA (the NAIT Students' Association — the student government body) or other campus groups. Mention your specific role in The Nugget or the Campus Ambassador Program if applicable.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the General Application is enough. Instead, submit a separate, detailed application through the awards portal to ensure you are fully considered. Double-check that your portal profile is completely up to date.
