About this award

You can receive up to a maximum of $1,000 towards your tuition fee. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an autistic student who is enrolling in a post-secondary program and lives in the Durham Region of Ontario. You must apply online by June 30, 2026. Autism Ontario Central East will notify all applicants of their status after that date, though they do not specify the exact day or method of notification. Winners are chosen by a lottery. Autism Ontario Central East commits to offering a minimum of one scholarship per annum, but they do not publish the total number of applicants they receive each year. The award goes towards your tuition fee. You can apply in multiple years if you have not won before, but you may only receive the Hollylynn Towie Scholarship once. Confirm with Autism Ontario Central East if there are any other conditions to maintain your eligibility.

Who qualifies

You must be a student with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder — a developmental condition that affects how you communicate and interact with others) who currently lives within the Durham Region of Ontario, including North Durham, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Clarington, or Newcastle. You must provide proof that you have been accepted into a post-secondary education program (such as college or university) in Canada that lasts for a minimum of two years. If your chosen program is located outside of Canada, you must provide an explanation for your choice.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

  • SupportAvoid omitting your proof of acceptance. Instead, ensure your letter of acceptance clearly shows the program is at least two years long. Double-check that the document is legible before uploading.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to upload your documents. Instead, submit your online application well before the June 30 deadline. This ensures any technical glitches do not disqualify you.
