About this award

You can receive a $1,000.00 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a plumbing apprentice who has worked hard in both your classroom theory and your hands-on shop work while also facing financial challenges. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, the portal, or phone. Winners are chosen based on academic achievement, which is split as 50% theory and 50% shop, as well as demonstrated financial need. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask NAIT how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a second or third year student enrolled in the Plumber Apprenticeship program at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). You will only be considered for this award during the period you attend NAIT. To qualify, you must show academic achievement (calculated as 50% theory and 50% shop) and demonstrated financial need.

Tips for applying

• SupportAvoid relying solely on your grades. Instead, ensure your shop instructor can vouch for your practical skills since shop work counts for 50% of the academic score. Talk to your shop lead about your performance.
• StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to fill out your general profile. Instead, complete your General Application in the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) portal early. This ensures you are automatically considered for this and other awards.
• RealismAvoid assuming that a high theory grade alone will win the award. Instead, remember that you need a balance of both theory and shop success plus financial need. Check both your classroom and shop marks before applying.
