About this award

You get $7,500 per term, which adds up to $60,000 over the course of a four-year degree. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an international student with an admission average of at least 80% starting a full-time English-language undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa in Winter 2026 or later. Since this is an automatic award, there is no separate application deadline. You will be notified of the result at the time of your admission to the University of Ottawa. Winners are chosen automatically based on meeting the eligibility criteria. There are unlimited awards available, so you do not have to compete with other students for a limited number of spots. Ask University of Ottawa during your admission process how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. You can receive up to 12 instalments of this award. To keep it, you must remain enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program in the faculties of Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences or the Telfer School of Management.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be an international student with a valid study permit who pays international tuition fees. You must be newly admitted for the Winter 2026 term or later into an approved English-language undergraduate program in one of these faculties: Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences or the Telfer School of Management. You need a minimum admission average of 80% and you must be enrolled full-time. You cannot enrol in the French immersion stream. Please note that Canadian citizens with dual citizenship are not eligible because they already qualify for Canadian tuition rates.

Tips for applying

  • Academic RecordAvoid focusing only on your final grades. Instead, ensure your overall admission average is at least 80% before you apply to the university. Check that your calculated average meets the University of Ottawa requirements.
  • Study PermitAvoid waiting until after you are admitted to organize your paperwork. Instead, ensure your study permit is valid and ready for processing. Contact the university's international office if you have questions about permit types.
  • StrategyAvoid applying to the French immersion stream if you want this funding. Instead, select a standard English-language program in one of the six eligible faculties. Double-check your program's faculty designation on the university website.
  • RealismAvoid worrying about the number of applicants. Instead, focus on meeting the 80% average and faculty requirements. Since there are unlimited awards, your success depends on your own qualifications rather than a competition.
