About this award

You can win $8,000.00 through this competition. As a prize, this money is yours to keep and does not have to be paid back. This is for you if you are a current student at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) who has a business idea or project to pitch. You must apply by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT how and when you will be notified if your video is selected for the finals. Judges select the top 5 teams based on a 2-3 minute video submission. After that, participants at a dinner will vote live to pick the winning team. The top three competitors are chosen based on the judges' discretion using a scoring rubric as a guideline. Ask NAIT during your application how the prize money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, while others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Tips for applying

  • VideoAvoid making a video that exceeds the time limit. Instead, keep your pitch strictly between 2 and 3 minutes to ensure you follow the rules. Record a practice run to time your delivery perfectly.
  • SupportAvoid trying to manage the entire pitch alone if you have a great team. Instead, collaborate with up to 3 other students to bring different skills to your presentation. Divide roles such as research and speaking among your group members.
  • StrategyAvoid guessing what the judges want. Instead, study the scoring rubric provided during the opening ceremony to match your pitch to their criteria. Use the rubric as a checklist while filming your video.
  • RealismAvoid assuming a spot in the finals is guaranteed. Instead, remember that only the top 5 teams are selected by judges to pitch at the dinner. Focus on making your initial 2-3 minute video as impactful as possible.
