About this award

You can receive a $1,000.00 bursary. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are an Alberta resident pursuing a career in vehicle or equipment technicians and can show you have a financial need. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the portal. NAIT's official page says how this award is decided (see Who qualifies). Ask NAIT how many students usually qualify, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be an Alberta resident enrolled in one of these programs: Automotive Service Technician, Autobody Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, or Parts Technician. You need to show satisfactory academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Note that a preference will be given to students enrolled in the Automotive Service Technician program.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

  • Open to trades students
  • Resident of Alberta
  • Studying Automotive Service Technician, Autobody Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician or Parts Technician

How to apply

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • Financial NeedAvoid giving vague descriptions of your situation. Instead, provide clear details about your specific expenses and income gaps. List your monthly costs to show why this $1,000 would help you.
  • SupportAvoid using a generic character reference. Instead, ask a teacher or shop instructor who knows your work ethic in the lab to vouch for your skills. Provide their direct contact info.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the general application. Since you are automatically considered based on your completed General Application, ensure every section of that form is filled out completely before the June 7, 2027 deadline.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the preference for Automotive Service Technician students makes the award guaranteed. Instead, focus on proving your financial need and grades to remain competitive with other technician students.
