About this award

You can receive a $1,000.00 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student in a skilled trade program who has shown excellent academic achievement in your coursework. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the awards portal. Selection is based on excellent academic achievement. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask NAIT how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in one of the following programs at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology): Ironworker, Sheet Metal Worker, Machinist, Welder, or Industrial Mechanic (Millwright). This award is granted based on excellent academic achievement. If you are an apprentice, you will only be considered for the specific intake during which you attend NAIT.

Tips for applying

  • Academic AchievementAvoid just listing your grades. Instead, highlight specific projects or modules where you excelled to prove your academic achievement. Mention a specific technical skill you mastered in your program.
  • SupportAvoid submitting your application without reviewing it. Instead, ask a current instructor or a learning advisor at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) to check your General Application for clarity. Ensure your program enrollment is correctly listed.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to access the portal. Instead, log in to the NAIT awards portal early to ensure your profile is complete. Double-check that your contact information is current.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the General Application is enough if you are an apprentice. Instead, remember that apprentices must submit a specific application to be considered. Take the extra step to ensure your apprentice status is documented.
