About this award

You can receive a $3,000 scholarship for your studies. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student in the International Baccalaureate (IB — a rigorous global curriculum) program who is also deeply involved in your school or community. You must apply by June 30 at 11:59 PM. You will hear back from Edmonton Community Foundation via email in early August of each year. You must be nominated by your IB English 30 teacher. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Edmonton Community Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. The money is sent directly to your accepting post-secondary institution in the fall to offset your tuition fees. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Edmonton Community Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be completing your final year of a full International Baccalaureate (IB — a rigorous global curriculum) program at an Edmonton Public or Edmonton Catholic School. You need to have achieved a high academic standing overall, particularly in IB English 30, and show leadership through your contributions to your school and/or community. You must be pursuing your studies at a qualified university or college in Alberta; however, priority will be given to those planning to attend a qualified university in Alberta. Financial need may also be considered.
