About this award

You can receive a $3,000.00 award. This is a bursary, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have self-declared Indigenous ancestry and are pursuing a career in the technical fields of mining, manufacturing, or engineering. You must apply by October 31, 2026. When you apply, ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the application portal. The Award Committee chooses winners based on a 50% weighting for financial need and a 50% weighting for your essay on leadership and community involvement. There are 3 awards available per academic year. Ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how many people typically apply so you can judge your odds. Ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Saskatchewan Polytechnic whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be of self-declared Indigenous ancestry and enrolled full-time in an eligible program. You can be entering any year of study, but you must be pursuing studies in Mining, Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies. You cannot have received a Nutrien Award from a different category in the same academic year. First preference is given to students in these programs: - Heavy Equipment, Truck, and Transport Technician - Industrial Mechanics - Instrumentation Engineering Technology - Mechanical Engineering Technology - Mining Engineering Technology If there are not enough recipients in those programs, the committee may select students from: - Chemical Engineering Technology - Computer Systems Technology - Electrical Engineering Technology - Engineering Design and Drafting Technology - Environmental Technology - Geographic Information Science - Power Engineering Technology - Welding Additionally, preference will be given to you if you are currently or have previously been employed by Nutrien.
