About this award

You can receive a $1,500.00 grant for your studies. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student pursuing a career in architecture and design while staying involved in your community. You must apply by October 31, 2026. When you apply, ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or through the awards portal. Selection is based on a 50% weighting for financial need and a 50% weighting for your creativity, innovation, community involvement, and leadership in architecture, design, and your studies. There is only 1 award available. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Saskatchewan Polytechnic whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be enrolled full-time in the Architectural Technologies diploma program at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw campus. You must self-identify as having Indigenous ancestry, which includes First Nations, Inuit and/or Metis. You also need a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of your final grades) of 70% from either your high school studies or your previous term at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

How to apply

Tips for applying

  • CreativityAvoid giving a generic list of your skills. Instead, describe specific examples of how you have shown innovation or leadership in your design projects. Write about one project where your unique approach solved a problem.
  • SupportAvoid using vague references. Instead, ensure your referees can speak directly to your community involvement and your growth as a leader in architecture. Ask your mentor to provide a concrete example of your impact.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the weighted criteria. Instead, balance your application by providing equal detail on both your financial need and your creative achievements. Ensure both sections are equally thorough.
  • RealismAvoid overlooking the fact that only 1 award is available. Instead, treat this as a high-competition application and spend extra time refining your supplemental answers. Focus on what makes your perspective as an Indigenous designer unique.
