About this award

You can receive a $3,000.00 grant. As a grant, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a leader in your shop or community and are finishing your third year of technical training. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the portal. Selection is based on your leadership and integrity, which you can show through your classroom participation or community involvement. Financial need may also be considered. Ask NAIT how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be completing the third year of the Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, or Machinist apprenticeship programs. You must also be pursuing the final year of training to be considered. You will only be considered for the intake that you attend NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology).

How to apply

  1. Read the award's official page

Check you meet every requirement, and note each document they ask for.

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • Community LeadershipAvoid just listing the organizations where you volunteered. Instead, describe a specific time your leadership helped others. Give a concrete example of how you took charge in a project.
  • StrategyAvoid leaving your General Application incomplete. Since you are automatically considered based on that form, ensure every section is detailed and updated before the deadline.
  • RealismAvoid assuming that being in the final year guarantees the award. Because financial need and leadership are weighed, focus your application on showing your character and your need for support.
