About this award

You can receive a $1,000.00 scholarship. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student in the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) program who has maintained a strong academic record. You must apply by June 7, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the portal. Selection is based on excellent academic achievement in the previous period of your program. A preference is given to students who show leadership, community engagement, volunteerism, or involvement in extracurricular activities. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask NAIT how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) program. You need to have shown excellent academic achievement in the previous period of the program. If you are an apprentice, you will only be considered during the intake when you attend NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). Tips for applying

  • Community EngagementAvoid just listing the organizations where you volunteered. Instead, describe one specific time your leadership or volunteer work helped someone else. Mention a concrete result of your actions.
  • SupportAvoid submitting references that only confirm your attendance. Instead, ask a teacher or supervisor to speak to your academic growth and reliability. Provide a direct email address for each referee.
  • StrategyAvoid relying solely on the automatic consideration process. Instead, ensure your General Application is fully detailed and updated. Double-check that your latest grades are visible in the system.
  • RealismAvoid assuming that high grades alone guarantee the award. Instead, remember that the committee prefers students who are active in their community. Balance your academic focus with a few meaningful extracurricular activities.
