About this award

You can receive a $1,000.00 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student of Indigenous ancestry pursuing a career in nursing. You must apply by October 31, 2026. When you apply, ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the awards portal. There is only 1 award available. Selection is based on a 50% weighting for your academic achievement and a 50% weighting for your financial need. Since you are automatically considered based on your General Application, ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic how the final winner is chosen among the pool. Ask Saskatchewan Polytechnic during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Saskatchewan Polytechnic whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled full-time in the Practical Nursing Diploma program at any Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus. You must be of self-declared Indigenous ancestry, which includes Métis, Status/Treaty Indian, Non-Status Indian, and Inuit. Please note that preference will be given to Year 1 students.

Tips for applying

  • Financial NeedAvoid providing vague statements about your expenses. Instead, give a clear breakdown of your current costs and gaps in funding. List your specific monthly expenses to show why you need the $1,000.
  • SupportAvoid using references that do not know your academic history. Instead, choose a teacher or mentor who can speak to your achievements in the Practical Nursing program. Ensure they can confirm your dedication to the field.
  • StrategyAvoid leaving your General Application incomplete. Instead, fill out every optional field in the Saskatchewan Polytechnic awards portal. Since this award is automatic, the more detail you provide, the easier it is for the committee to see your financial need.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this award is guaranteed because you meet the basic criteria. Instead, remember that only 1 award is available for the entire program. Focus on highlighting both your grades and your financial situation to stand out.
