About this award

You can receive a $2,000 scholarship. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Aboriginal student pursuing a career in construction, civil or heavy equipment engineering, or business administration. You must apply by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the portal. Selection is based on excellent academics. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask NAIT how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be an Aboriginal student enrolled in one of these specific programs: Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology, Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting, or Bachelor of Business Administration – Entrepreneurship. You need to show excellent academics to qualify. A preference will be given to a student who volunteers or is involved with a community organization.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

How to apply

  1. Read the award's official page

Check you meet every requirement, and note each document they ask for.

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • Community LeadershipAvoid just listing the names of organizations where you volunteered. Instead, describe the specific impact your involvement had on the community. Mention one project where your help made a difference.
  • SupportAvoid providing references who only know you socially. Instead, use a teacher or community leader who can vouch for your academic excellence and volunteer work. Ask them to highlight your reliability.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the General Application. Since you are automatically considered based on that form, ensure every section is filled out completely and accurately before you submit.
  • RealismAvoid assuming that high grades alone guarantee the award. Because there is a preference for community involvement, you should emphasize your volunteer experience to stand out from other high-achieving students.
